The seniors saved their best performance of the league for the final group match as they defeated Moortown 1-15 to 1-11 to qualify for the semi-final stage of the competition.
Blayney made a fast start and had 1-3 on the scoreboard in the opening 10 minutes with the goal coming from a speculative effort from midfielder Gary Ward to a solitary point from Moortown. The remainder of the half was pretty even with good scores at both ends and Blayney lead 1-8 to 0-6 at the interval. The second half began in similiar fashion to the first with Blayney in the ascendancy and by the mid point Blayney were 6 clear. A couple of Moortown points reduced the defecit and when they found the net with 5 minutes to go the game was back in the melting pot. Blayney regrouped and won some crucial kickouts in the middle of the field and coolly tapped over 3 points in the closing minutes to seal the victory
The victory means we have qualified for the semi-final and are drawn to face Killybegs. The game will take place in Killybegs this Saturday at 2PM.
