Club Notes 01/06/10

Seniors –A strong second half display saw Blayney take the points in an entertaining star match in Latton on Sunday morning last. Blayney played with a strong breeze in the first half and appeared to be making the most of it when they raced into a 0-5 to 0-1 lead with a long range score from midfielder Brian McGuinness being the pick of the scores. But Latton finished the half strongly and reduced the Blayney lead to 2 points by half-time. Latton came out of the blocks quickly in the second half and turned the two point deficit into a one point lead, but Blayney reacted positively and a brace of Naill Duffy points were quickly followed by a well worked goal from the same player. Blayney then spurned further goal chances but crucially on both occasions the forwards reacted to register points. The final score was taken by young minor Brendan McElroy, who marked his senior debut with a well taken pointed free. Final score 1-14 to 0-10.

Junior B – The Junior Bs face Donaghmoyne in the O’Duffy Cup this Friday evening in St Marys Park (8.00pm).

Junior C – The Cs gave an impressive performance on Wednesday night last when they defeated Emyvale 1-12 to 0-10 in a preliminary round Crawley Cup clash. Aided by a stiff breeze Blayney had much the better of the first half but failed to convert this superiority into scores and only lead by two points at half time, Blayneys scores coming from Fergal Duffy (0-3, 2f), Gerry Brady (0-2) and Cathal O’Flaherty. The second half began in whirlwind fashion with Blayney adding a further 1-2 to their total in the opening minutes, with the goal coming from Gerry Brady, to stretch the lead to seven. However the breeze was having an effect and five unanswered points gave Emyvale hope before a Paddy Conlon point eased the nerves and further points from Brady, Duffy and Paddy Collins saw Blayney home. The next round takes place this Saturday evening against Blackhill in St Marys Park (7.00pm).
