Club Notes 06/07/10
Seniors - The seniors gained another two league points when they defeated Clontibret by 3-06 to 0-11 on Saturday evening. The teams traded points early on with Blayneys scores coming from Keith Hill and Patrick Tavey. Clontibret then had their best period of the game and fired over five points to a single Blayney score from Keith Hill but with halftime approaching Gary Ward broke upfield and finished to the net to reduce the deficit to one point. Clontibret tagged on another point in stoppage time to leave them two to the good at halftime. The second half began in spectacular fashion for Blayney as after an early Gary Ward point they struck the Clontibret net twice, first from a well taken Keith Hill penalty and then Aidan Ward finished to the net to give Blayney a five point lead. Clontibret battled hard and were back to within three points with ten minutes left before two pointed frees from Keith Hill secured the victory.
Junior C - The Cs qualified for this weeks Crawley Cup Final when they won an absorbing semi-final clash with Seans last Wednesday night. Playing against the elements Blayney got off to the worst possible start when Seans goaled in the first minute, points from Paddy Conlon and Brendan McElroy kept Blayney in touch but when Seans hit five points in a row from the 15-25 mins it looked as if the task would be beyond Blayney but crucially they got the last two scores of the half. With the wind at their backs in the second half Blayney began to find their range and had reduced the arrears to two points with fifteen minutes left and then took the lead for the first time when Brendan McElroy cut in and finished to the net. Seans weren't finished though and two points had them in front again before Brendan McElroy coolly pointed a free in injury time to take the match to extra time. Blayney opened up a three point lead in extra time thanks to Gerry Brady and Brendan McElroy and despite a late Seans rally held on to win by a single point 1-12 to 1-11. The final was down for decision last night (Wednesday) in Cremartin, full report next week.

Under 16 - A strong second-half performance wasn't enough for the U16s as they lost to Monaghan Harps by a single point last Thursday night, scores came from Niall McCann 2-0, Barry Duffy 1-1, David McMahon 0-4, Darren McElroy 0-2 and Aidan McElroy 0-1.
