Club Notes 09/03/10

Casino Night – The Casino night was a huge success last Friday night with close on 200 people turning up on the night. After a long night at the gambling tables, and in some cases dancing, the winners were announced at around 1AM, the prize winners were as follows;

1st Abbi Lam,
2nd Mickey McHugh,
3rd Ronan McAteer,
4th David Hatcher,
5th Aidan Ward,
6th Nudie Hughes,
7th Paddy Conlon
Texas Hold’em winner Paul McManus.

Many thanks to our many sponsors on the night Mr Ks, Jim Shortt Butchers, Mr Richards, Super Valu, Seans Bar, Darren McQuillan, Ned Kelly Amusements, Studio One Carrickmacross and Toby O Neill (SFS). Also thanks to Damian Hughes for his help in gathering the prizes and selling tickets.

Seniors – The senior team had a useful run out on Saturday last when they defeated Roundwood (Wicklow) in a challenge match played at Donaghmoyne due to the unavailability of St Marys Park.

Junior Bs – The B’s began the season as they finished last season when they defeated Monaghan Harps 1-11 to 1-09 after a hard fought contest. The Harps started the stronger and raced into a 0-4 to 0-1 lead before a very well taken goal by Mark Hanratty turned the game in Blayneys favour. Mark proved to be a handful all day for the harps and he bagged the majority of Blayneys scores. Points in the second half from Damian Hughes and Brian McGuinness appeared to have Blayney in the driving seat until a Harps goal drew them back level. The home side responded well to retake a two point lead with Patrick Tavey among the scorers. In the end, that was enough to see Blayney take the points. The B’s are in action again this Sunday when they travel to Scotstown for a 3PM throw in.

Junior C’s – Blayney’s good weekend was completed on Sunday evening when the Junior C’s also edged a close game against Sean McDermotts 1-08 to 1-06. Despite opening the scoring with a well taken Niall Dignam point Blayney were very much on the back foot in the opening quarter, a well taken Seans goal saw them take the lead and only some excellent goalkeeping from Bart McNamara and a missed penalty kept Blayney in touch. Gradually Blayney edged their way into the game and a Sean McGeough goal on 20 minutes gave them a lead they were never to lose. Further points from Fergal Duffy and Chris Callan left Blayney 3 ahead at HT. The second half was evenly matched but just as Sean’s threatened to steal a share of the spoils Gerry Brady broke from the middle of the field to slot an excellent point and put the issue beyond doubt.

Golf Classic – The club have released more details about the club golf classic on Friday 9th of April. The venue will again be the prestigious Concra Wood Golf and Country Club.
