Club Notes 13/07/10
Junior C – The Cs quest for Crawley Cup glory ended in defeat when they were defeated 0-10 to 0-08 by Aughnamullen in the final at Cremartin last Wednesday evening. The first half was a very tight affair with never more than a point between the teams and scores were level at the interval, 0-4 apiece. Blayneys scores came from Gerry Brady (0-2), Paddy Conlon (0-1f) and Brendan McElroy (0-1f) but Blayney would rue the two missed goal opportunities they had during the half. Aughnamullen started strongly in the second half and three points in the first five minutes moved them clear before Brendan McElroy registered Blayneys first point of the second half. Aughnamullen continued to dominate and added three more points with a solitary Peter Treanor point Blayneys only response increasing the lead to four as the game entered its closing stages. Blayney refused to concede and points from Gerry Brady and Chris Cronin set up a grandstand finish but despite a couple of late goalmouth scrambles Blayney were unable to get the goal they needed and time ran out with Aughnamullen clinging on to their two point advantage. Perhaps this young team didn’t do themselves justice on the night but with nine of the starting team under twenty hopefully they will move on to greater things in the future.
Seniors - The seniors travel to Monaghan to play the Harps in a star game next Wednesday night throw in at 8.00pm.
Junior B – The Bs face Corduff this Saturday evening in a championship semi-final clash, the game is fixed for Corduff (7.30pm). Last night (Wednesday) they played Truagh in a crunch league game, check results section for score.
Under 21 – The U21s recovered from a lacklustre first half display to defeat Aughnamullen by 2-10 to 1-10 on Monday night. Blayney were on the back foot for most of the first period and trailed by four points at half time. A Patrick Tavey goal just after the break started the comeback and the same player goaled again late in the game Blayney to secure the points for Blayney.
Minor – Blayney bowed out of the minor Championship on Tuesday last when they were defeated by Latton 2-03 to 0-08. On a night not suited to good football Blayney left themselves a mountain to climb when with the elements at their backs in the first half they conceded an early goal. Despite this setback they dominated the half and led by a point at halftime. It was a similar story when Latton stole in for a goal early in the second half and try as they might Blayney weren’t able to draw level.
Under 16 – The U16s returned to winning ways last Thursday night when they defeated Scotstown by a point 1-07 to 1-06. Good performances on the night from Fergal Malone, Fergal McGeough, Barry Hanratty, Niall McCann and Ronan McNamara when he was introduced. Tonight (Thursday) they travel to Emyvale (7.00pm).
