Club Notes 17/05/10

Seniors – The Seniors were well beaten on Sunday morning by a sharper and hungrier Drumhowan team. The teams traded points early on with Blayneys score coming from Damien Hughes before a good Drumhowan move saw them score the games opening goal. A point from a penalty and further scores saw Drumhowan stretch their lead to six points after 20 minutes, Blayney responded with two Marty McElroy frees to reduce the arrears to 4 at half time. Blayney started the second half with renewed vigour and a Marty McElroy point from play further reduced the deficit and when the same player was brought down in the large square for a penalty Blayney had the chance to draw level. Keith Hill coolly slotted home the resultant penalty leaving all to play for with 20 minutes left. Unfortunately this was as good as it got for Blayney and with Drumhowan dominating around the middle they added three further points to close out the game, Final score Faughs 1-04 Drumhowan 1-07. Last night (Wednesday) the seniors travelled to Scotstown, check results section for score.

Junior B – The Bs bounced back to form last week with a comfortable 3-10 to 3-04 victory over Latton. The groundwork for the victory was laid with an excellent first half performance with goals coming from Shane McCarthy and Niall Duffy and another penalty save from Paraic McNally seeing them to a seven point lead. Blayney continued to press in the third quarter and a further goal from Ryan Comiskey along with points from Gary Ward (0-3), Niall Duffy and Cathal O’Flaherty reinforced their advantage before a late rally from Latton left 6 points between the teams at the finish. This weekend sees the Bs travel to Magheracloone on Friday night for a 7.30 throw-in.
