Club Notes 20/04/10
Seniors – The seniors had a disappointing start to their league campaign as they lost two close games against Ballybay and Carrickmacross respectively. First up was a trip to Ballybay on Wednesday last, this was a game Blayney should have won having dominated for the opening 50 minutes but some poor shooting and a missed penalty allowed Ballybay to stay in touch and a strong finish saw them secure the points, final score Ballybay 0-10 Faughs 0-08. On Sunday evening action moved to St Marys Park for a home fixture with Carrickmacross. The early signs were good as Blayney raced out to a 4 point lead with 3 Marty McElroy points and one from Ciaran Hanratty. A Carrick goal reduced the deficit but Blayney added further points from McElroy (2) and Dermot Malone to lead by 2 at the break. The second half was a tit for tat affair with a Lynch point having Blayney two ahead with a quarter of the game remaining. Three consecutive Carrick points saw them take the lead before Keith Hill levelled for Blayney and in a frantic finish Carrick broke upfield and pointed to win by the minimum Carrick 1-10 Faughs 0-12. Last night (Wed) saw them travel to Clontibret(check results section).
