Club Notes 24/05/10

Seniors – The Seniors showed great spirit when coming from behind to snatch a draw with Scotstown last Wednesday night. Blayney had the best of the early exchanges and lead by 4 points to one after 10 minutes thanks to points from Hughes (2), Hill and Marty McElroy but as the half wore on Scotstown gained the ascendancy and six of the next seven scores saw them pull ahead before a Patrick Tavey free reduced the arrears to two at half time. Scotstown increased the lead to four early in the second half before a period of Blayney pressure yielded three points in a row to leave the minimum between the sides. A fortunate goal for Scotstown followed by a point saw them extend their lead to five points with only ten minutes left. Just as it seemed as if the game would drift away from Blayney they sprung into life and a brace of goals from Patrick Tavey and Marty McElroy and a Hill free saw Blayney take a two point lead. The drama wasn’t finished however and almost straight from kickout Scotstown goaled to retake the lead and in a dramatic finish Ryan Treacy pointed to tie the scores 2-11 apiece. This weekend sees a trip to Latton on Sunday for a 12.30 throw-in.

Junior B – The Bs went down to a three point defeat against Magheracloone on Friday night. After a pretty even first half Magheracloone pulled away in the second half and despite a late Patrick Tavey goal Magheracloone held on to win 0-15 to 1-09. Next Wednesday the Bs are in championship action against Donaghmoyne in St Marys Park (8.00pm).

Junior C – Honours were even after hard fought draw against Blackhill on Sunday evening. An excellent Cathal O’Flaherty goal early in the second half seemed to sway the game Blayneys way but a late two goal salvo from Blackhill gave them a share of the points. Last night (Wednesday) they were in action in the Crawley Cup against Emyvale, check results section for score.

Minors – On Tuesday last the minors defeated Clontibret 2-09 to 2-08. On a difficult night for football both teams performed admirably and the outcome was in doubt until Kieran Sheridan pointed in injury time to seal the victory.
