Club Notes 27/04/10

Seniors – What a difference a week makes! After the doom and gloom of last week the seniors responded with a brace of wins this week. On Wednesday evening they had an easy win over understrength Clontibret. A fairly even first half, in which a Niall Duffy goal was the highlight, saw Blayney enter the dressing rooms 2 points ahead. But from the moment Duffy goaled again on the first minute of the second half it was one way traffic with Blayney scoring at will with impressive performances coming from all of the forwards, final score Faughs 5-13 Clontibret 0-07. Sunday afternoons game against Magheracloone was a much tighter affair with Blayney eventually pulling away to win by six points. Magheracloone had the better of the early exchanges and opened the scoring before a speculative effort from Patrick Tavey found its way to the net to give Blayney the lead, 3 points from Ciaran Hanratty (2 frees) kept Blayney in the hunt and the scores were level at half time. The second half began in the same fashion with the teams trading points, Blayneys coming from Hill and McElroy. The games decisive moment arrived shortly after when Blayney were awarded a penalty which was expertly slotted home by Keith Hill to put daylight between the teams. The goal gave Blayney renewed confidence and they tacked on the next four points to put the game beyond Magheracloone, final score Faughs 2-11 Magheracloone 0-11.

Junior B – The Bs recorded a comprehensive 2-15 to 0-05 victory over Carrick last Friday night. It was a game they were always well in control of with second half goals from Justin Hanratty and Gerry Brady the highlights.

Junior C – The Cs returned to winning ways on Monday evening when they defeated O Hanlons 2-14 to 0-08. A strong first half display secured the points with an early Gerry Brady goal followed by a Naill Dignam goal before halftime leading the way. It was a much improved team display with Chris Cronin, Mark McMahon and Ryan Comiskey catching the eye.
