Club Notes 15/12/09

Junior Bs –The 2009 season ended on a high on Saturday last when the Junior B’s defeated Clontibret in the Junior B Championship Final at Drumhowan. Blayney were quick out of the traps and a Mark Hanratty point and an opportunist goal from Gary Ward gave them the early initiative. Clontibret slowly worked their way into the game and with Blayney on the back foot six unanswered points saw Clontibret lead by two at the interval. An early second half point from Aidan Ward reduced the arrears to the minimum but three more points from Clontibret eased them clear again. The introduction of Brendan McElroy mid-way through the second half was to be the turning point of the game as he clinically finished to the net with his first touch of the ball. Straight from the kick out Blayney were on the attack again and a Mark Hanratty point levelled the game. With the bit between their teeth Blayney poured forward and four points in a row from Damien Hughes, Aidan Ward (2) and Adi Irwin put the game beyond Clontibret. Final Score Blayney 2-09 Clontibret 0-11.
